Neuroscience is good. Just science. Decent. Buddhism is something esoteric. Right, isn’t it?
This is the start of a new series – thought-provoking impulses from my reading pile. This usually contains 4-5 books in parallel.
“Beyond the Self” by Wolf Singer and Matthieu Ricard is now one of the few books that I read almost in one go.
Wolf Singer is a renowned German neuroscientist known for his pioneering work in the study of the brain and consciousness. Matthieu Ricard is a Buddhist monk and French writer who is internationally committed to meditation, compassion and happiness research.
“Beyond the Self” is a collection of sometimes controversial but always constructive dialogs between these two on various topics related to consciousness, the self and personal development.
As a physicist by training, I am fascinated by how clearly and systematically they demonstrate how current neuroscientific findings confirm the effectiveness of the centuries-old Buddhist meditation technique. And how, at the same time, our methods in systemic coaching are confirmed as an instrument of profound personal development.
A personal satisfaction – we are on the right track.
A must for every serious coach – a recommendation for anyone who wants to develop personally.
Thanks to Christian Pothorn, coach, yogi and managing director of a very successful and growing tax firm for this great recommendation!
