5 Case studies of dysfunctional leadership

Many of my posts have been about coaching and personal development. I am now adding snippets of thoughts from the leadership and team environment.

For example – how can leadership fail? What patterns can we see?

1️⃣ Trust destroyed: The charismatic boss represses the fact that his team no longer fully trusts him and therefore does not accept his leadership impulse.
2️⃣ Conviction: The rational boss justifies his decisions in detail, but is not understood rationally – or fears and anger determine his team’s actions.
3️⃣ Rank: The hierarchical boss plays up his rank to get his team to act as desired, but the team smirks behind his back and ignores him.
4️⃣ Extrinsic incentives: The spendthrift boss distributes more incentives in an inflationary manner, and loses more and more respect as a result. Envy and anger arise in the team.
5️⃣ Coercion: The autocratic boss forces his team to act as desired – they sabotage him consciously or unconsciously,

Quality, focus and energy in the team suffer massively. Are trust and cohesion dwindling? Already experienced this?

The core of good leadership development is to teach such leadership methods in order to understand group and leadership dynamics.

There are also methods for resolving dysfunctional leadership situations as a manager. How would you deal with the above situations as a manager?
